Laws § 38.1162","heading":"Recognition board; establishment; appointment and terms of members; vacancy; election of chairperson; duties of board.","body":"Sec. 2.\n\nThe department shall establish a recognition board within the department to consist of 5 members appointed by the director. The director shall select the members from a list of state employees and retired state employees. Not more than 1 member shall be from the same state department. Not more than 1 member shall be a retired state employee.\n\nThe terms of the members, except to fill vacancies occurring other than by expiration of term, shall be 2 years from the date of appointment. A vacancy in the office of a member, occurring other than by expiration of term, shall be filled by the director for the balance of the term. The members shall elect a chairperson of the board.\n\nThe board shall do all of the following:\n\nDevelop the guiding principles for employee, retired state employee, and department and agency recognition, including the establishment of guidelines for the type of recognition to be granted within the limits of section 5.\n\nPerform the final review of process improvements, value added behaviors, and the resulting recognition actions valued at amounts greater than $500.00 and any actions that receive a request for reconsideration.\n\nPrepare the rules for promulgation by the department under section 6 for the operation of the recognition system described under this act.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 38","Act Act-325-of-1978"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-38-1162","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"cc774449e05ace9216c06fec7f1e3ab5612c71aa9c3022acdaa7e8d177195531","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-38.1161","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-38.1163"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
