Laws § 38.410","heading":"Division of county civil service into unclassified and classified services.","body":"Sec. 10.\n\nThe civil service of the county is divided into the unclassified and classified services.\n\nThe unclassified service includes:\n\nOfficers elected by popular vote and persons appointed to fill vacancies in those elective offices.\n\nOfficers and employees for whom the state constitution of 1963 specifically directs the manner of appointment.\n\nMembers of boards and commissions required by law to be appointed.\n\nA deputy or assistant in each of the elective offices, who, in the case of a vacancy in the elective office or inability of that elective officer to perform the duties of the office, would be entitled to perform the duties of the office until the vacancy is filled or the inability removed.\n\nCommissions appointed by the county board of commissioners, or by the board of county auditors, under the general law of this state.\n\nCourt reporters of all courts of record, except the probate courts, shall be exempt from the classified service under this act.\n\nCounty health director.\n\nThe chief clerk of a court of record who is required by law to be appointed by the board of auditors on recommendation of the judges of the court.\n\nThe director of labor relations in the county.\n\nThe building manager, county road commission.\n\nThe chief of administration-prosecutor administrator of the office of prosecuting attorney.\n\nThe classified service comprises all positions not specifically included by this act in the unclassified service.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 38","Act Act-370-of-1941"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-38-410","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"957219f704f1fc4b0bf73f320cf16461d7ea1c4c89a8ed458368596ca8ea9d71","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-38.409","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-38.411"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
