Laws § 380.1166b","heading":"Free enterprise and entrepreneurship instruction programs.","body":"Sec. 1166b.\n\n(1) Beginning with the 2023-2024 school year, the board of a school district or board of directors of a public school academy is encouraged to ensure that the school district's or public school academy's social studies curriculum for grades 9 to 12 includes a program of instruction in free enterprise and entrepreneurship.\n\n(2) Subsection (1) does not preclude a school district or public school academy from including instruction described in subsection (1) in other subject areas or grade levels.\n\n(3) A program of instruction under this section must be project-based and may provide instruction on any of the following subjects:\n\n(a) Business vocabulary, including, at least, entrepreneurship, free enterprise, business finance, goods and services, and innovation.\n\n(b) Entrepreneurs from this state and around the world.\n\n(c) Action activities, including, at least, setting short-term and long-term goals.\n\n(d) Business basics, including, at least, taxes for businesses and corporations, essential skills for business owners, and product- and service-based business ideas.\n\n(e) Creating a student project-based business plan.\n\n(4) As used in this section, \"entrepreneur\" means an individual who organizes and operates a business or businesses and takes on greater than normal financial risk to do so.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 380","Act Act-451-of-1976"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-380-1166b","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"918b47e70c892b9439195057b3213ca5ee6bf85453416e86b6760a494b460eef","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-380.1166a","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-380.1166c"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
