Laws § 380.1295","heading":"Parental involvement contracts.","body":"Sec. 1295.\n\nSchool districts are encouraged to develop and implement parental involvement contracts with parents of pupils. These parental involvement contracts should be voluntary and should be designed to encourage and facilitate a parent's involvement in his or her child's education.\n\nNot later than 90 days after the effective date of this section, the department shall develop and make available to school districts a model parental involvement contract that may be used for the purposes of subsection (1). The model parental involvement contract shall establish a learning partnership between parent, teacher, and pupil, and shall address at least all of the following:\n\nThat the pupil's parent or guardian will do all of the following:\n\nReview homework assignments and offer assistance when needed.\n\nEnsure that the pupil gets to school each day, on time and ready to learn.\n\nDemonstrate interest in the pupil's well-being by attending school functions and supporting the pupil's school activities.\n\nMake every effort to attend parent-teacher conferences.\n\nThat the pupil will do all of the following:\n\nParticipate in class discussions and complete assignments in a manner that is accurate, neat, and timely.\n\nCome to school each school day and be on time.\n\nPay attention in class and complete assigned lessons.\n\nObey the rules and codes of conduct set for the classroom.\n\nRespect teachers, school administrators, and other pupils at all times by not antagonizing, intimidating, or threatening them.\n\nThat the teacher will do all of the following:\n\nSet high standards for quality instruction that promote development of grade-appropriate academic skills.\n\nKeep accurate attendance records and inform the parent or guardian promptly if an attendance problem starts to develop.\n\nTeach pupils how to study and review basic concepts taught in class.\n\nMaintain a welcome atmosphere and scheduling flexibility toward parent or guardian visits and participation.\n\nThat the contract should include a way for the pupil's parent or guardian to explain any obstacles that prevent him or her from complying with the contract.\n\nIf a parental involvement contract includes an explanation described in subsection (2)(d), school officials shall consider accessing possible resources to help overcome the obstacles identified by the parent or guardian.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 380","Act Act-451-of-1976"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-380-1295","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"8e2612fa0612bfc02e30b1645402505b2c9e38469180444e11a60c519ac4a62c","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-380.1294","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-380.1296"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
