Laws § 380.381","heading":"School district organized as community district; political subdivision and public body corporate; name; jurisdiction; definitions.","body":"Sec. 381.\n\n(1) A school district organized as a community district shall be governed by this part, by the provisions of article 2 not inconsistent with this part, and by articles 3 and 4.\n\n(2) A community district is a political subdivision and public body corporate separate and distinct from this state and other school districts in this state.\n\n(3) The name of a school district governed by this part shall include the name of the city, village, or township with the greatest population located within the geographic boundaries of the community district, the word \"school\" or \"schools\", and the word \"community\" or \"district\", or both.\n\n(4) Subject to section 12b, a school district governed by this part shall be under the jurisdiction of and governed by the school board of the community district provided for by section 384.\n\n(5) As used in this part:\n\n(a) \"Authorizing body\" means that term as defined in section 501, 521, or 551, as applicable.\n\n(b) \"Transfer date\" means that term as defined in section 12b.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 380","Act Act-451-of-1976"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-380-381","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"6d096ddb55119dd0b7b0174b70afb41b6af647d3fb7601db1ff3ba95e01c3758","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-380.3","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-380.382"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
