Laws § 388.1083","heading":"Remedial assistance programs; components; guidelines and specifications; staff training; demonstration projects; audit.","body":"Sec. 3.\n\nBased on information from the mathematics, reading and language arts assessment program, the department shall provide remedial assistance programs, as funds are made available by law to school districts to raise competencies in basic skills of students identified pursuant to subsection (4) of section 2. A funded program shall include but not be limited to the following components:\n\nDiagnosis of each student's performance difficulties and the development of an instructional program best suited to his individual needs.\n\nProvision for selection, adaption and installation of instructional systems that take account of individual student needs.\n\nProvision for an evaluation of the program in order to identify changes needed to improve program effectiveness.\n\nThe department shall establish guidelines and specifications for the program components. The department shall provide technical assistance to each school district in its implementation of the guidelines and specifications. The department shall conduct such evaluations necessary to provide adequate information for the setting of guidelines.\n\nThe department shall provide for preservice and in-service training of staff who would be involved in the school programs.\n\nThe department with the cooperation of selected schools shall establish demonstration projects in basic skills.\n\nA remedial assistance program shall be audited as part of its evaluation by an agency independent of the state department of education to facilitate the accountability of each school for its programs.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 388","Act Act-38-of-1970"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-388-1083","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"8be210ba22c0c426583f6f44d459374469b3bd35072beb010df2f89be1b9c33b","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-388.1082","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-388.1084"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
