Laws § 388.861","heading":"Definitions.","body":"Sec. 1.\n\nAs used in this act:\n\n\"Asbestos\" means a group of naturally occurring minerals that separate into fibers, including chrysotile, amosite, crocidolite, asbestiform anthophyllite, asbestiform tremolite, and asbestiform actinolite.\n\n\"Asbestos-containing material\" means any material or product containing more than 1% asbestos.\n\n\"Cost\" means the discounted present value of all anticipated future expenditures associated with a course of action in an area where asbestos removal is being considered.\n\n\"Educational facility\" means a building owned, leased, or under the control of a public or nonpublic school or school system containing any of grades K-12.\n\n\"Friable\", when referring to asbestos-containing material, means material that can, by hand pressure, be crumbled, pulverized, or reduced to powder when dry.\n\n\"Operations and maintenance plan\" means a program of work practices designed to maintain asbestos or friable asbestos-containing material in good condition to ensure the cleanup of asbestos or friable asbestos-containing material previously released and to prevent the further release of asbestos or asbestos-containing material by minimizing and controlling the damage or disturbance of asbestos or asbestos-containing material.\n\n\"Removal\" means the taking out or stripping of asbestos or asbestos-containing material from an existing structure.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 388","Act Act-51-of-1993"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-388-861","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"30a1716aee2ae71bc3a08c5d1ec30a1114e5456a33e21864cc65d9cef8398fac","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-388.1086","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-388.862"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
