Laws § 390.1423","heading":"Purposes of act and Michigan education trust.","body":"Sec. 3.\n\nIn light of the findings described in section 2, the legislature declares the purposes of this act and of the Michigan education trust created by this act to be:\n\nTo encourage education and the means of education.\n\nTo maintain state institutions of higher education by helping to provide a stable financial base to these institutions.\n\nTo provide wide and affordable access to state institutions of higher education for the residents of this state.\n\nTo encourage attendance at state institutions of higher education.\n\nTo provide students and their parents economic protection against rising tuition costs.\n\nTo provide students and their parents financing assistance for postsecondary education at a Michigan institution of higher education of their choice.\n\nTo help provide the benefits of higher education to the people of this state.\n\nTo encourage elementary and secondary students in this state to achieve high standards of performance.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 390","Act Act-316-of-1986"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-390-1423","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"5eb8b11710f26d71d4c9b6943b0f87d0f5369c899ce53c26f6a7d6b66b5610ad","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-390.1422","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-390.1424"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
