Laws § 390.1602","heading":"Definitions.","body":"Sec. 2.\n\nAs used in this act:\n\n(a) \"Academic credential\" means a degree or a diploma, transcript, educational or completion certificate, or similar document that indicates completion of a program of study or instruction or completion of 1 or more courses at an institution of higher education or the grant of an associate, bachelor, master, or doctoral degree.\n\n(b) \"False academic credential\" means an academic credential issued or manufactured by a person that is not a qualified institution.\n\n(c) \"Qualified institution\" means any of the following:\n\n( i ) An institution of higher education, as that term is defined in 20 USC 1001, located in the United States.\n\n( ii ) Any other institution of higher education authorized to do business in this state.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 390","Act Act-100-of-2005"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-390-1602","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"d3d7e5248083326c2ad7787c45fe4c9406d350d34feec92804b6936dd82447b3","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-390.1601","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-390.1603"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
