Laws § 397.573","heading":"Needs considered by state board in carrying out powers and duties.","body":"Sec. 23.\n\nThe department shall consider the following needs in carrying out its powers and duties:\n\nLibrary facilities shall be provided to residents of the area covered by a cooperative library without needless duplication of facilities, resources, or expertise.\n\nEstablishment of a local public library may be approved for state aid purposes where local conditions require an additional local public library.\n\nExisting public libraries and new public libraries shall cooperate to provide adequate library services at a reasonable cost.\n\nIncreased effort shall be made to provide residents the right to read, with added emphasis on areas which normally cannot provide those services.\n\nLocal responsibility, initiative, and support for library service shall be recognized and respected when provision is made for adequate local and cooperative library service.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 397","Act Act-89-of-1977"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-397-573","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"22b157963ef01639c56fa5e7cb5bf607f91458f48b0f9621fc1efe99116e56e4","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-397.572","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-397.575"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
