Laws § 399.73","heading":"Advisory board; creation; appointment, qualifications, and terms of members; vacancies; expenses; election of officers; meetings; quorum.","body":"Sec. 3.\n\nThe Michigan iron industry museum advisory board is created within the department of history, arts, and libraries.\n\nThe advisory board shall consist of the following members:\n\nOne member appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives.\n\nOne member appointed by the senate majority leader.\n\nNine members appointed by the governor, including all of the following:\n\nOne representative from the city of Negaunee and 1 representative from the city of Marquette.\n\nOne representative from the township of Negaunee.\n\nOne representative from the county board of commissioners of the county of Marquette.\n\nOne representative from the county historical society of the county of Marquette.\n\nOne representative from the mineral industry.\n\nThree members from the general citizenry of the state, at least 1 of whom is a resident of the Upper Peninsula.\n\nEach member of the advisory board shall be a registered voter and a resident of this state.\n\nNot more than 6 members of the advisory board shall be of the same political party at any 1 time.\n\nExcept for members first appointed, the term of office of each member of the advisory board appointed under subsection (2)(c) shall be 4 years. Of the members of the advisory board first appointed under subsection (2)(c), 3 shall serve for 4 years, 3 shall serve for 3 years, and 3 shall serve for 2 years. A member of the advisory board appointed by the speaker of the house of representatives or the senate majority leader under subsection (2)(a) or (b), respectively, shall hold office for a term of 2 years to coincide with the term of office of state representative. Vacancies on the advisory board shall be filled in the same manner as the original appointment for the remainder of the unexpired term.\n\nA member of the advisory board shall not receive any compensation for his or her services, except for expenses incurred while acting as an official representative of the advisory board. However, a member of the advisory board shall not receive more than $75.00 per day for not more than 24 days per calendar year, for not more than 2 calendar years. All claims for expenses shall be paid pursuant to voucher submitted to the department of treasury.\n\nThe members of the advisory board annually shall elect a chairperson, vice-chairperson, and secretary.\n\nThe advisory board shall meet not less than twice each calendar year at the call of the chairperson.
