Laws § 400.3","heading":"Family independence agency; director; appointment; salary; expenses; intent as to references.","body":"Sec. 3.\n\nThe director of the family independence agency shall be appointed by the governor with the advice and consent of the senate, and shall serve at the pleasure of the governor. The director shall be the executive officer of the family independence agency and shall be responsible to the governor for performing his or her duties.\n\nThe director shall receive such salary as shall be appropriated by the legislature, and shall receive actual and necessary traveling and other expenses incurred in the discharge of his or her official duties, to be paid in the same manner as salaries and expenses of other state employees are paid.\n\nWhenever reference is made in this act to the \"bureau of social security\", or the \"state bureau\", reference shall be deemed to be intended to be made to the family independence agency.\n\nWhenever reference is made in this act to the \"supervisor of the state bureau\", reference shall be deemed to be made to the director of the family independence agency.\n\nFor counties having a population of 600,000 or less and for all cities regardless of population, whenever reference is made in this act to the \"county bureau of social aid\", reference shall be deemed to be made to the county or city family independence agency.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 400","Act Act-280-of-1939"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-400-3","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"022c0a46bf2c2f57142b0f2210dec5a3ae85278bdb5a0ba334998ff9e4143644","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-400.28","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-400.31"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
