Laws § 408.1014r","heading":"Use of firefighting foam concentrate (PFAS); rules.","body":"Sec. 14r.\n\n(1) The director shall promulgate rules regarding a firefighter's use of firefighting foam concentrate. The rules may only include the following:\n\n(a) The best practices regarding proper use, handling, and storage of firefighting foam concentrate.\n\n(b) The best health practices including, but not limited to, all of the following:\n\n( i ) Containment and handling of PFAS-contaminated materials, including a firefighter's equipment, until they are disposed of pursuant to the natural resources and environmental protection act, 1994 PA 451, MCL 324.101 to 324.90106.\n\n( ii ) Decontamination of a firefighter's body and equipment following the use of firefighting foam.\n\n(c) A prohibition on the use of firefighting foam concentrate containing intentionally added PFAS by a firefighter for training purposes.\n\n(d) A prohibition on the use of firefighting foam concentrate containing intentionally added PFAS by a firefighter for equipment calibration purposes after January 1, 2020, unless 1 or more of the following apply:\n\n( i ) The calibration is otherwise required by law.\n\n( ii ) The facility where the calibration will take place has implemented measures that comply with the rules promulgated under this section.\n\n(2) As used in this section:\n\n(a) \"Firefighter\" means either of the following:\n\n( i ) That term as defined in section 2 of the firefighters training council act, 1966 PA 291, MCL 29.362.\n\n( ii ) An individual employed by a person and who in that employment is knowledgeable, trained, and skilled in at least basic firefighting operations.\n\n(b) \"PFAS\" means a perfluoroalkyl or polyfluoroalkyl substance.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 408","Act Act-154-of-1974"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-408-1014r","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"33980be58c1f487a0056acc128b9dc952fa365661129563f82bab214171b7b9a","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-408.1014n","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-408.1016"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
