Laws § 429.40","heading":"Classes of goods and services; amendment; limitation.","body":"Sec. 10.\n\nThe following general classes of goods and services are established for the purpose of administering this act. The administrator may amend, by rule or regulation, the classification established in this section, but not in any way to limit or extend the applicant's or registrant's rights. An application for registration of a mark shall be limited to a single general class of goods or services. Nothing in this act shall be construed as limiting the registration of a mark to 1 general class.\n\nThe classes are as follows:\n\nGoods:\n\nRaw or partly prepared materials.\n\nReceptacles.\n\nBaggage, animal equipments, portfolios and pocketbooks.\n\nAbrasives and polishing materials.\n\nAdhesives.\n\nChemicals and chemical compositions.\n\nCordage.\n\nSmokers' articles, not including tobacco products.\n\nExplosives, firearms, equipment and projectiles.\n\nFertilizers.\n\nInks and inking materials.\n\nConstruction materials.\n\nHardware and plumbing and steam-fitting supplies.\n\nMetals and metal castings and forgings.\n\nOils and greases.\n\nPaints and painters' materials.\n\nTobacco products.\n\nMedicines and pharmaceutical preparations.\n\nVehicles.\n\nLinoleum and oiled cloth.\n\nElectrical apparatus, machines and supplies.\n\nGames, toys and sporting goods.\n\nCutlery, machinery and tools, and parts thereof.\n\nLaundry appliances and machines.\n\nLocks and safes.\n\nMeasuring and scientific appliances.\n\nHorological instruments.\n\nJewelry and precious-metal ware.\n\nBrooms, brushes and dusters.\n\nCrockery, earthenware and porcelain.\n\nFilters and refrigerators.\n\nFurniture and upholstery.\n\nGlassware.\n\nHeating, lighting and ventilation apparatus.\n\nBelting, hose, machinery packing, and nonmetallic tires.\n\nMusical instruments and supplies.\n\nPaper and stationery.\n\nPrints and publications.\n\nClothing.\n\nFancy goods, furnishings and notions.\n\nCanes, parasols and umbrellas.\n\nKnitted, netted and textile fabrics, and substitutes therefor.\n\nThread and yarn.\n\nDental, medical and surgical appliances.\n\nSoft drinks and carbonated waters.\n\nFoods and ingredients of foods.\n\nWines.\n\nMalt beverages and liquors.\n\nDistilled alcoholic liquors.\n\nMerchandise not otherwise classified.\n\nCosmetics and toilet preparations.\n\nDetergents and soaps.\n\nServices:\n\nMiscellaneous.\n\nAdvertising and business.\n\nInsurance and financial.\n\nConstruction and repair.\n\nCommunication.\n\nTransportation and storage.\n\nMaterial treatment.\n\nEducation and entertainment.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 429","Act Act-242-of-1969"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-429-40","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"5ba09c254513b1dc0b0d18f41900a0c379d2526912a050e6777312d597353975","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-429.38","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-429.41"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
