Laws § 440.9108","heading":"Sufficiency of description.","body":"Sec. 9108.\n\nExcept as otherwise provided in subsections (3), (4), and (5), a description of personal or real property is sufficient, whether or not it is specific, if it reasonably identifies what is described.\n\nExcept as otherwise provided in subsection (4), a description of collateral reasonably identifies the collateral if it identifies the collateral by 1 or more of the following:\n\nSpecific listing.\n\nCategory.\n\nExcept as otherwise provided in subsection (5), a type of collateral defined in the uniform commercial code.\n\nQuantity.\n\nComputational or allocational formula or procedure.\n\nExcept as otherwise provided in subsection (3), any other method, if the identity of the collateral is objectively determinable.\n\nA description of collateral as \"all the debtor's assets\" or \"all the debtor's personal property\" or using words of similar import does not reasonably identify the collateral.\n\nExcept as otherwise provided in subsection (5), a description of a security entitlement, securities account, or commodity account is sufficient if it describes 1 or more of the following:\n\nThe collateral by the term security entitlement, securities account, or commodity account, or as investment property.\n\nThe underlying financial asset or commodity contract.\n\nA description only by type of collateral defined in the uniform commercial code is an insufficient description of either of the following:\n\nA commercial tort claim.\n\nIn a consumer transaction, consumer goods, a security entitlement, a securities account, or a commodity account.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 440","Act Act-174-of-1962"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-440-9108","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"3561dd7e54a819cdcefd84ad18f21943a6ea41c18b073caf954a105ea8b73a76","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-440.9107","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-440.9109"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
