Laws § 440.9310","heading":"When filing required to perfect security interest or agricultural lien; security interests and agricultural liens to which filing provisions do not apply.","body":"Sec. 9310.\n\n(1) Except as otherwise provided in subsection (2) and section 9312(2), a financing statement must be filed to perfect all security interests and agricultural liens.\n\n(2) The filing of a financing statement is not necessary to perfect 1 or more of the following:\n\n(a) A security interest that is perfected under section 9308(4), (5), (6), or (7).\n\n(b) A security interest that is perfected under section 9309 when it attaches.\n\n(c) A security interest in property subject to a statute, regulation, or treaty described in section 9311(1).\n\n(d) A security interest in goods in possession of a bailee that is perfected under section 9312(4)(a) or (b).\n\n(e) A security interest in certificated securities, documents, goods, or instruments that is perfected without filing, control, or possession under section 9312(5), (6), or (7).\n\n(f) A security interest in collateral in the secured party's possession under section 9313.\n\n(g) A security interest in a certificated security that is perfected by delivery of the security certificate to the secured party under section 9313.\n\n(h) A security interest in deposit accounts, electronic chattel paper, electronic documents, investment property, or letter-of-credit rights that is perfected by control under section 9314.\n\n(i) A security interest in proceeds that is perfected under section 9315.\n\n(j) A security interest that is perfected under section 9316.\n\n(3) If a secured party assigns a perfected security interest or agricultural lien, a filing under this article is not required to continue the perfected status of the security interest against creditors of and transferees from the original debtor.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 440","Act Act-174-of-1962"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-440-9310","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"abace1cec74c2cfd17b6f7c4c97c34559b8560fc968cbbfef05cb1f722b39aa1","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-440.9309","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-440.9311"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
