Laws § 445.2514","heading":"Inapplicability of Article 3 to certain entities or uses.","body":"Sec. 4.\n\nArticle 3 does not apply to any of the following entities or uses:\n\n(a) A person that is acting under a court order, warrant, or subpoena.\n\n(b) A person that administers a credit file monitoring subscription service to which a consumer or protected consumer has subscribed.\n\n(c) A person that provides a consumer or the consumer's representative with a copy of the consumer's credit report on request of the consumer or the representative.\n\n(d) A check services or fraud prevention services company that issues any of the following:\n\n( i ) Reports on incidents of fraud.\n\n( ii ) Authorizations for the purpose of approving or processing negotiable instruments, electronic funds transfers, or similar payment methods.\n\n(e) A deposit account information service company that issues reports regarding account closures due to fraud, substantial overdrafts, or automated teller machine abuse or provides similar information regarding a consumer to inquiring banks or other financial institutions for use only in reviewing a consumer request for a deposit account at the inquiring bank or financial institution.\n\n(f) A consumer reporting agency database or file that consists entirely of consumer information concerning, and used solely for, 1 or more of the following:\n\n( i ) Criminal record information.\n\n( ii ) Personal loss history information.\n\n( iii ) Fraud prevention or detection.\n\n( iv ) Employment screening.\n\n( v ) Tenant screening.\n\n(g) A consumer reporting agency that meets both of the following:\n\n( i ) It is only engaged in reselling resell credit information by assembling and merging information contained in a database of 1 or more consumer reporting agencies.\n\n( ii ) It does not maintain a permanent database of credit information it obtains for purposes of subparagraph ( i ).","path":["MI Code","Chapter 445","Act Act-229-of-2013"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-445-2514","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"bf8f9c8bfda8b1b6494232e8b422f8d1fc99200917b1ef61b3330b570aba4072","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-445.2513","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-445.2521"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
