Laws § 451.413","heading":"Business of debt management as financial planning service requiring license; exception.","body":"Sec. 3.\n\nExcept as provided in subsection (2), a person engaged in the business of debt management is rendering a financial planning service and must obtain a license under this act.\n\nSubsection (1) does not apply to the following when engaged in the regular course of their respective businesses and professions:\n\nAn attorney at law, if providing debt management advice incidental to his or her law practice.\n\nA certified public accountant, if providing debt management advice incidental to his or her accounting practice.\n\nA bank, fiduciary, savings and loan institution, or credit union duly authorized and admitted to transact business in this state and performing credit and financial adjusting service in the regular course of its principal business.\n\nA title insurer or abstract company, while doing an escrow business.\n\nAn employee or agent of a licensee, acting solely in the capacity of agent for the licensee.\n\nA judicial officer or person acting under court order.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 451","Act Act-148-of-1975"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-451-413","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"6aa8053e5ff4df6b9f20bd89e5132019969eba0e63547546a569f5bdfdd55432","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-451.412","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-451.414"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
