Laws § 474.54","heading":"Powers of department generally.","body":"Sec. 4.\n\nThe department shall exercise those powers necessary to gain qualification on behalf of the state for financial assistance available pursuant to the federal acts and, in so doing, may:\n\nPlan, promote, supervise, and support safe, adequate, and efficient rail services.\n\nEmploy sufficient trained and qualified personnel to implement the purposes described in this section.\n\nMaintain adequate programs of investigation, research, promotion, and development in connection with the purposes described in this section, and provide for public participation in these areas.\n\nComply with the rules and regulations of the secretary of transportation of the United States department of transportation in connection with federal rail assistance programs.\n\nDo those other things necessary to maximize federal assistance for rail services to this state.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 474","Act Act-295-of-1976"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-474-54","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"6259397194f2a965a965e85cdb09dca5160f024de119953db56039b4fdd80c7d","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-474.52","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-474.55"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
