Laws § 500.1903","heading":"Definitions; conflicting provisions.","body":"Sec. 1903.\n\nAs used in this chapter:\n\n\"Eligible unauthorized insurer\" means an insurer not authorized to transact insurance in this state but eligible to write insurance business under this chapter.\n\n\"Association\" means an association registered under section 1930.\n\n\"Licensee\" means a person licensed under this chapter.\n\n\"Surplus lines insurance\" means insurance in this state procured from or continued or renewed with an unauthorized insurer and includes all of the following, whether effected by mail or otherwise:\n\nInsurance for which applications are solicited from persons resident or located in this state.\n\nInsurance for which contracts of insurance are issued or delivered to persons resident or located in this state.\n\nInsurance that is procured through negotiations or by an application occurring in whole or in part in this state or made within or from within this state.\n\nInsurance for which premiums, in whole or in part, are remitted directly or indirectly within or from within this state.\n\nThe definitions contained in subsection (1), unless the context otherwise requires, shall apply to the use of the defined terms in this chapter and shall control in the interpretation of this chapter.\n\nThe definitions contained in other chapters of this act shall apply to the terms used in this chapter unless otherwise specifically provided in this chapter.\n\nNothing contained in this section shall supersede the provisions of section 402b and in the event of conflict between the provision herein and section 402b, the latter shall govern.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 500","Act Act-218-of-1956"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-500-1903","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"217fa414bcfa659ce6fc1711fcffad0321d425868e1311feb920a4f672fc4c87","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-500.1902","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-500.1903a"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
