Laws § 552.2704","heading":"Office of child support; duties; available proceedings; security, bond, or deposit as payment guarantee prohibited.","body":"Sec. 704.\n\n(1) In a support proceeding under this article, the office of child support of this state shall do the following:\n\n(a) Transmit and receive applications.\n\n(b) Initiate or facilitate the institution of a proceeding regarding an application in a tribunal of this state.\n\n(2) The following support proceedings are available to an obligee under the Convention:\n\n(a) Recognition or recognition and enforcement of a foreign support order.\n\n(b) Enforcement of a support order issued or recognized in this state.\n\n(c) Establishment of a support order if there is no existing order, including, if necessary, determination of parentage of a child.\n\n(d) Establishment of a support order if recognition of a foreign support order is refused under section 708(2)(b), (d), or (i).\n\n(e) Modification of a support order of a tribunal of this state.\n\n(f) Modification of a support order of a tribunal of another state or a foreign country.\n\n(3) The following support proceedings are available under the Convention to an obligor against which there is an existing support order:\n\n(a) Recognition of an order suspending or limiting enforcement of an existing support order of a tribunal of this state.\n\n(b) Modification of a support order of a tribunal of this state.\n\n(c) Modification of a support order of a tribunal of another state or a foreign country.\n\n(4) A tribunal of this state may not require security, bond, or deposit, however described, to guarantee the payment of costs and expenses in proceedings under the Convention.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 552","Act Act-255-of-2015"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-552-2704","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"eb0261d85c02bc428799d93dc4160b6c6904f2477a221ff568f9ce254630c27f","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-552.2703","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-552.2705"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
