Laws § 555.804","heading":"Principal; allocations.","body":"Sec. 404.\n\nA trustee shall allocate to principal all of the following:\n\nTo the extent not allocated to income under this act, assets received from a transferor during the transferor's lifetime, a decedent's estate, a trust with a terminating income interest, or a payer under a contract naming the trust or its trustee as beneficiary.\n\nMoney or other property received from the sale, exchange, liquidation, or change in form of a principal asset, including realized profit, subject to this article.\n\nAmounts recovered from third parties to reimburse the trust because of disbursements described in section 502(1)(g) or for other reasons to the extent not based on the loss of income.\n\nProceeds of property taken by eminent domain, but a separate award made for the loss of income with respect to an accounting period during which a current income beneficiary had a mandatory income interest is income.\n\nNet income received in an accounting period during which there is no beneficiary to whom a trustee may or must distribute income.\n\nOther receipts as provided in sections 408 to 415 of this article.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 555","Act Act-159-of-2004"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-555-804","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"57ddae7c4cb2eca66c5d2f7190203d6d03b78540e3c288b665a054629ba81399","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-555.803","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-555.805"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
