Laws § 600.223","heading":"Rule-making power.","body":"Sec. 223.\n\nThe supreme court has authority to promulgate and amend general rules governing practices and procedure in the supreme court and all other courts of record, including but not limited to authority:\n\nto prescribe the forms of all process to be issued by courts of record,\n\nto prescribe the practices and procedure in the supreme court and other courts of record concerning:\n\nmethods of review,\n\nspecial verdicts,\n\nthe granting of new trials,\n\nmotions in arrest of judgment,\n\ntaxation of costs,\n\ngiving notice of special motions and other proceedings,\n\nthe staying of proceedings,\n\nhearing of motions,\n\nimposing of terms on motions granted,\n\ndiscovery procedure, and\n\nother matters at its discretion,\n\nto prescribe in which cases the circuit court may grant orders to stay proceedings in matters pending in the circuit courts or another inferior court and to prescribe the terms and conditions upon which the orders shall be granted and the effect the orders will have,\n\nto abolish, as far as practicable, distinctions between law and equity.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 600","Act Act-236-of-1961"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-600-223","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"a6c772cfdb3c6bdc62bc55f3500869e13165e39de8142639f77519fb4ad429d3","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-600.221","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-600.224"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
