Laws § 600.317","heading":"Chief clerk; deputy clerks; personnel; duties; qualifications; bond; court officers.","body":"Sec. 317.\n\nThere shall be 1 chief clerk who shall be appointed and may be removed by the court of appeals. The office of the chief clerk shall be located in the city of Lansing.\n\nDeputy clerks as are necessary shall be appointed by the chief clerk with the approval of the court of appeals. Deputy clerks shall be assigned by the chief clerk to locations approved by the court of appeals. The chief clerk and deputy clerks shall engage necessary personnel with the approval of the court of appeals and maintain such records under such standards as the court of appeals directs. Action taken in accordance with this subsection is subject to the superintendence of the supreme court and the court administrator.\n\nThe chief clerk shall do all of the following:\n\nTake and subscribe the oath required by the constitution before taking office.\n\nPerform those duties as may be provided by law, or as prescribed by the court of appeals.\n\nThe chief clerk and all deputy clerks shall each furnish a bond before taking office. The bond shall be all of the following:\n\nIn favor of the people of the state.\n\nIn the penal sum of $10,000.00.\n\nApproved by the chief judge of the court of appeals.\n\nFiled with the secretary of state.\n\nPaid from the general fund in the state treasury on vouchers approved by the chief judge of the court of appeals.\n\nConditioned on the faithful performance of his or her official duties with impartiality and correctness.\n\nThe judges of the court of appeals shall appoint court officers as deemed necessary by the court of appeals.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 600","Act Act-236-of-1961"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-600-317","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"29a1ebd673e0747afe4eb6e3efa5a71e43ee2f9a128bc10d0fe23bedff3a3fd4","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-600.3165","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-600.3170"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
