Laws § 600.8701","heading":"Definitions.","body":"Sec. 8701.\n\nAs used in this chapter:\n\n(a) \"Authorized local official\" means a police officer or other personnel of a county, city, village, township, or regional parks and recreation commission created under section 2 of 1965 PA 261, MCL 46.352, legally authorized to issue municipal civil infraction citations.\n\n(b) \"Citation\" means a written complaint or notice to appear in court upon which an authorized local official records the occurrence or existence of 1 or more municipal civil infractions by the person cited.\n\n(c) \"Municipal civil infraction determination\" means a determination that a defendant is responsible for a municipal civil infraction by 1 of the following:\n\n( i ) An admission of responsibility for the municipal civil infraction.\n\n( ii ) An admission of responsibility for the municipal civil infraction, \"with explanation\".\n\n( iii ) A preponderance of the evidence at an informal hearing or formal hearing on the question under section 8719 or 8721, respectively.\n\n( iv ) A default judgment for failing to appear as directed by a citation or other notice at a scheduled appearance under section 8715(3)(b) or (4), at an informal hearing under section 8719, or at a formal hearing under section 8721.\n\n(d) \"Ordinance\" includes a temporary vessel speed limit established by a county emergency management coordinator or sheriff under section 80146 of the natural resources and environmental protection act, 1994 PA 451, MCL 324.80146.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 600","Act Act-236-of-1961"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-600-8701","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"56623e1b27c947adff1afa4a6399705979826f4ec3a7ae8e0ac80a3cfc8de109","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-600.867","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-600.8703"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
