Laws § 691.1133","heading":"Applicability of act; scope.","body":"Sec. 3.\n\n(1) Except as otherwise provided in subsection (2), this act applies to a foreign-country judgment to the extent that both of the following apply:\n\n(a) The judgment grants or denies recovery of a sum of money.\n\n(b) Under the law of the foreign country where rendered, the judgment is final, conclusive, and enforceable.\n\n(2) This act does not apply to a foreign-country judgment, even if the judgment grants or denies recovery of a sum of money, to the extent that the judgment is any of the following:\n\n(a) A judgment for taxes.\n\n(b) A fine or other penalty.\n\n(c) A judgment for divorce, support, or maintenance or other judgment rendered in connection with domestic relations.\n\n(3) A party seeking recognition of a foreign-country judgment has the burden of establishing that this act applies to the foreign-country judgment.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 691","Act Act-20-of-2008"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-691-1133","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"057d0ef60c44a013d507dfa67d511bdda57634c4c787f64391d086e68e9256b3","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-691.1132","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-691.1134"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
