Laws § 700.6301","heading":"Definitions.","body":"Sec. 6301.\n\nAs used in this part:\n\n\"Beneficiary form\" means a registration of a security that indicates the present owner of the security and the owner's intention regarding the person who will become the security's owner upon the owner's death.\n\n\"Register\" means to issue a certificate showing the ownership of a certificated security or, in the case of an uncertificated security, to initiate or transfer an account showing ownership of securities.\n\n\"Registering entity\" means a person who originates or transfers a security title by registration, and includes a broker maintaining security accounts for customers and a transfer agent or other person acting for or as an issuer of securities.\n\n\"Security\" means a share, participation, or other interest in property, in a business, or in an obligation of an enterprise or other issuer, and includes a certificated security, uncertificated security, and security account.\n\n\"Security account\" includes all of the following:\n\nA reinvestment account associated with a security.\n\na securities account with a broker, financial institution, or subsidiary or affiliate of a financial institution.\n\nA cash balance in an account with a broker, financial institution, or subsidiary or affiliate of a financial institution, whether or not credited to the account before the owner's death.\n\nCash, interest, earnings, or dividends earned or declared on a security in an account, reinvestment account, or account with a broker, financial institution, or subsidiary or affiliate of a financial institution, whether or not credited to the account before the owner's death.\n\nA cash balance or other property held for or due to the owner of a security as a replacement for or product of an account security, whether or not credited to the account before the owner's death.","path":["MI Code","Chapter 700","Act Act-386-of-1998"],"source_url":"https://www.legislature.mi.gov/Laws/MCL?objectName=mcl-700-6301","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:31Z","sha256":"9f67078fe2a9ba4c64770ef6e70c62308dee961e0ff948c0411af56de70275c1","source_id":"us-mi","stale":false,"prev":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-700.6101","next":"us-mi/mich.-comp.-laws-700.6302"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
