Definitions.\nFor the purposes of this section:\n(1) \"political subdivision\" means a statutory or home rule charter city, county, town, or other political subdivision; and\n(2) \"public swimming beach\" means an area abutting a body of water, other than a swimming pool governed by section 144.1222, owned or operated by the political subdivision, whether directly or under agreement with another public or private entity, intended to be open to the public for swimming.\nSubd. 2. Lifeguards.\nIf a political subdivision provides for lifeguards to be present at a public swimming beach, each lifeguard must be certified in first aid and adult, child, and infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation, have American Red Cross lifeguard certification or the equivalent, and be responsible for the supervision and safety of persons at the public swimming beach while on duty.\nSubd. 3.
