Stat. § 28.190","heading":"Vacancy — governor's duties.","body":"In case of death, resignation, removal from office, impeachment or vacancy from any cause in the office of secretary of state, the governor shall immediately appoint a qualified person to fill such vacancy for the remainder of the term in which such vacancy occurred and until his successor is elected or appointed, commissioned and qualified; and the governor shall take charge of the office and superintend its business until such person is appointed, commissioned and qualified; except that in case of impeachment, the governor shall appoint a qualified person to serve only until such impeachment is determined, when the suspended officer, if acquitted, shall be reinstated in office, or if the suspended officer is convicted, a new appointment shall be made by the governor as in the case of other vacancies.","path":["Title IV - EXECUTIVE BRANCH","Chapter 28 - Secretary of State"],"source_url":"https://revisor.mo.gov/main/OneSection.aspx?section=28.190","current_through":"2026 legislative session (floor)","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-03T22:23:24Z","sha256":"9ee20223f189ea8937ddfc2f0ebc5028d0b3a3f18d0d03a4f8d35ae5a4d759e8","source_id":"us-mo","stale":false,"prev":"us-mo/mo.-rev.-stat.-28.170","next":"us-mo/mo.-rev.-stat.-28.200"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
