Code Ann. § 21-23-20","body":"Upon conviction of any person of a misdemeanor in a municipal court of this state, the municipal court judge shall be authorized, in his discretion, to sentence such person to:\n\n(a) A period of time in jail to be served either on weekends only;\n\n(b) Other periods of time during the week wherein such offender may not be engaged in gainful employment; or\n\n(c) A specified number of days in jail with a provision for the release of such offender for the purpose of engaging in gainful employment at such times as the offender is actually gainfully employed, whether self-employed or otherwise.\n\nIn addition, the court may, in its discretion, sentence any convicted person to split periods of incarceration; and the court shall not be required to order such offender to serve a sentence of imprisonment all in one period but may suspend the sentence from time to time.","path":["MS Code","Title 21"],"source_url":"https://legislature.ms.gov/","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:17Z","sha256":"a6ecc6281e5593f0f6586d0ecf305c05744205418775c68fb9e069e8e0df6aa1","source_id":"us-ms","stale":false,"prev":"us-ms/miss.-code-ann.-21-23-19","next":"us-ms/miss.-code-ann.-21-23-21"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
