Code Ann. § 47-5-145","body":"(1)(a) No offender shall have standing to file a change of name petition with the chancery court;\n\n(b) No chancellor shall grant a change of name petition for an offender; and\n\n(c) No chancery clerk shall file a change of name petition for an offender.\n\n(2) A chancellor may change the name of an offender if:\n\n(a) A district attorney files a change of name petition on behalf of an offender;\n\n(b) A sheriff of a county in which a person is incarcerated files a change of name petition on behalf of an offender;\n\n(c) The Commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, or his or her designee, files a change of name petition on behalf of an offender; or\n\n(d) A Mississippi Department of Corrections Chaplain files a change of name petition on behalf of an offender.","path":["MS Code","Title 47"],"source_url":"https://legislature.ms.gov/","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:17Z","sha256":"0ae862d283a279cea955889fa04fd64035f221ac9b5a65e2a5a5fe8af2779b26","source_id":"us-ms","stale":false,"prev":"us-ms/miss.-code-ann.-47-5-143","next":"us-ms/miss.-code-ann.-47-5-147"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
