Stat. § 116-209.60","heading":"Definitions.","body":"The following definitions apply in this Part:\n(1)\tCommission. - The North Carolina Teaching Fellows Commission.\n(2)\tDirector. - The Director of the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program.\n(3)\tForgivable loan. - A forgivable loan made under the Program.\n(4)\tProgram. - The North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program.\n(5)\tPublic school. - An elementary or secondary school located in North Carolina that is governed by a local board of education, charter school board of directors, regional school board of directors, or University of North Carolina laboratory school board of trustees.\n(5a)\tQualifying licensure area. - A teacher licensure area in one of the following subjects:\na.\tEither of the following, as identified pursuant to G.S. 116-209.62(h):\n1.\tSpecial education.\n2.\tStem.\nb.\tElementary education (K-6).\n(5b)\tQualifying teacher. - A teacher in a North Carolina public school who meets the following criteria:\na.\tReceived a forgivable loan under the Program.\nb.\tGraduated within 10 years from an educator preparation program leading to teacher licensure, excluding any authorized deferment for extenuating circumstances.\nc.\tServes as a teacher in a qualifying licensure area.\n(6)\tSTEM. - Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.\n(7)\tTrust Fund. - The North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program Trust Fund.
