Stat. § 48-6-102","heading":"Readoption after a stepparent adoption.","body":"(a)\tIn addition to the methods set out in G.S. 48-6-101, a former parent may petition pursuant to this section to readopt an adoptee adopted by a stepparent.\n(b)\tThe petitioner's spouse shall not join the petition.\n(c)\tConsent to the readoption must be executed by:\n(1)\tThe adoptee, if 12 or more years of age;\n(2)\tThe petitioner's spouse, if any;\n(3)\tThe adoptee's adoptive parent, if the adoptee is a minor;\n(4)\tThe adoptee's parent who is or was the spouse of the adoptive parent, if the adoptee is a minor; and\n(5)\tAny guardian of the adoptee.\n(d)\tThe consent executed by the adoptee shall conform to the requirements of G.S. 48-4-103(e).\n(e)\tThe consent executed by the petitioner's spouse shall conform to the requirements of G.S. 48-5-102(c).\n(f)\tThe consent executed by the adoptive parent shall conform to the requirements of G.S. 48-4-103(b).\n(g)\tThe consent of the adoptee's parent who was the spouse of the adoptive parent shall conform to the requirements of G.S. 48-4-103(a) except for those required by G.S. 48-4-103(a)(2)b.\n(h)\tA consent executed by the guardian of a minor adoptee shall conform to the requirements of G.S. 48-4-103(c).\n(i)\tAn adoption under this section does not affect the relationship between the adoptee and the parent who was married to the adoptive parent.\n(j)\tAn adoption under this section does not terminate or otherwise affect any existing order of custody.
