Code § 12.1-21-01","heading":"Arson","body":"1.An individual is guilty of arson, a class B felony, if the individual starts or maintains a fire or causes an explosion with intent to destroy:\na.An entire or any part of a building or inhabited structure of another or a vital public facility;\nb.Or damage the individual's own real or personal property for the purpose of collecting insurance for the loss;\nc.Or damage the individual's own real property for the purpose of depriving another with a legal interest in the real property damaged or destroyed; or\nd.Or damage the individual's own personal property for the purpose of depriving another with a legal interest in the personal property damaged or destroyed, and the value of the personal property damaged or destroyed has a value in excess of two thousand dollars.\n2.For purposes of this section, \"a legal interest\" includes a joint legal interest by joint ownership of the property, or an individual's own legal interest in property financed by another, such as a mortgage, contract, deed, or lien.","path":["Title 12.1 Criminal Code","Chapter 12.1-21 Damaging Property Or Public Services"],"source_url":"https://ndlegis.gov/cencode/t12-1c21.pdf","current_through":"2026-07-31T11:12:02","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T21:04:14Z","sha256":"2842a624c74044bc47741dab51c03f894d34d6f48064377c1bdc2bb2827bccff","source_id":"us-nd","stale":true,"prev":"us-nd/n.d.-cent.-code-12.1-20-26","next":"us-nd/n.d.-cent.-code-12.1-21-02"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
