Code § 4.1-73-03","heading":"Brands - Requirements for recording","body":"1.The chief brand inspector shall approve an application for ownership of a brand, filed in accordance with section 4.1-73-02, and record the brand, unless:\na.The chief brand inspector determines that:\n(1)Official records indicate the brand is owned by another person;\n(2)The brand is deceptively similar to another recorded brand;\n(3)The brand is recorded in another state;\n(4)The brand may not be legible when placed on livestock; or\n(5)The proposed placement or position of the brand does not meet the requirements of section 4.1-73-05; or\nb.The brand:\n(1)Consists of only one letter, number, or symbol, except as provided in subsection 2;\n(2)Contains either the letter \"g\" or the letter \"q\";\n(3)Contains a letter not found in the modern English alphabet;\n(4)Contains the numeral \"0\" or \"1\";\n(5)Contains a dot;\n(6)Contains a letter, number, or symbol placed within another letter, number, or symbol; or\n(7)Contains a symbol other than:\n(a)A diamond;\n(b)An arrow;\n(c)A mill iron;\n(d)A cross;\n(e)A heart;\n(f)A box;\n(g)A triangle;\n(h)A quarter circle;\n(i)A bar;\n(j)A star; or\n(k)A forward or a backward slash.\n2.The chief brand inspector may permit the recording of a brand that consists of one letter, number, or symbol, provided the brand meets all other statutory requirements for recording and is to be placed only on goats or sheep.","path":["Title 4.1 Agriculture","Chapter 4.1-73 Branding Livestock"],"source_url":"https://ndlegis.gov/cencode/t04-1c73.pdf","current_through":"2026-07-31T11:12:02","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-02T21:04:14Z","sha256":"5c81d54210f85a8ede8ba1e0c008cd766c0ed67dec83ea04023b4f750ccad8e7","source_id":"us-nd","stale":true,"prev":"us-nd/n.d.-cent.-code-4.1-73-02","next":"us-nd/n.d.-cent.-code-4.1-73-04"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
