Stat. § 38-3511","heading":"Licensed surgical first assistant; activities authorized.","body":"A licensed surgical first assistant may engage in the practice of surgical assisting, including, but not limited to, the following:\n(1) Assisting in the intraoperative care of a surgical patient;\n(2) Positioning the patient;\n(3) Preparing and draping the patient for the surgical procedure;\n(4) Providing visualization of the operative site;\n(5) Assisting with hemostasis;\n(6) Assisting with closure of body planes, including the following:\n(a) Inserting running or interrupted subcutaneous sutures with absorbable or nonabsorbable material;\n(b) Utilizing subcuticular closure technique with or without adhesive skin closure strips; and\n(c) Closing skin with method indicated by surgeon, including, but not limited to, suture and staples;\n(7) Applying appropriate wound dressings;\n(8) Providing assistance in securing drainage systems to tissue;\n(9) Preparing specimens, such as grafts; and\n(10) Performing other tasks during a surgical procedure delegated by and under the personal supervision of a physician appropriate to the level of competence of the surgical first assistant.","path":["Chapter 38 - HEALTH OCCUPATIONS AND PROFESSIONS"],"source_url":"https://nebraskalegislature.gov/laws/statutes.php?statute=38-3511","current_through":"Laws 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-17T21:01:11Z","sha256":"60f920fdcc5a7e8a0012b2443d41db809df22c1964e0bc2c033aeb40e1f4f45c","source_id":"us-ne","stale":false,"prev":"us-ne/neb.-rev.-stat.-38-3510","next":"us-ne/neb.-rev.-stat.-38-3512"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
