Stat. § 79-701","heading":"Mission of public school system.","body":"The Legislature hereby finds and declares that the mission of the State of Nebraska, through its public school system, is to:\n(1) Offer each individual the opportunity to develop competence in the basic skills of communications, computations, and knowledge of basic facts concerning the environment, history, and society;\n(2) Offer each individual the opportunity to develop higher order thinking and problem-solving skills by means of adequate preparation in mathematics, science, the social sciences, and foreign languages and by means of appropriate and progressive use of technology;\n(3) Instill in each individual the ability and desire to continue learning throughout his or her life;\n(4) Encourage knowledge and understanding of political society and democracy in order to foster active participation;\n(5) Encourage the creative potential of each individual through exposure to the fine arts and humanities;\n(6) Encourage a basic understanding of and aid the development of good health habits; and\n(7) Offer each individual the opportunity for career exploration and awareness.","path":["Chapter 79 - SCHOOLS"],"source_url":"https://nebraskalegislature.gov/laws/statutes.php?statute=79-701","current_through":"Laws 2026","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-17T21:01:11Z","sha256":"0d4d917b81de0e86aaeeb00a9f1fc5fbe61757e200445b47718448df899037d3","source_id":"us-ne","stale":false,"prev":"us-ne/neb.-rev.-stat.-79-613","next":"us-ne/neb.-rev.-stat.-79-702"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
