Stat. § 12A:9-309","heading":"Security interest perfected upon attachment.","body":"Security Interest Perfected upon Attachment.\nThe following security interests are perfected when they attach:\n(1)\ta purchase-money security interest in consumer goods, except as otherwise provided in 12A:9-311 (b) with respect to consumer goods that are subject to a statute or treaty described in 12A:9-311(a);\n(2)\tan assignment of accounts or payment intangibles which does not by itself or in conjunction with other assignments to the same assignee transfer a significant part of the assignor's outstanding accounts or payment intangibles;\n(3)\ta sale of a payment intangible;\n(4)\ta sale of a promissory note;\n(5)\ta security interest created by the assignment of a health-care-insurance receivable to the provider of the health-care goods or services;\n(6)\ta security interest arising under 12A:2-401, 12A:2-505, 12A:2-711(3), 12A:2A-508(5), until the debtor obtains possession of the collateral;\n(7)\tsecurity interest of a collecting bank arising under 12A:4-210;\n(8)\ta security interest of an issuer or nominated person arising under 12A:5-118;\n(9)\ta security interest arising in the delivery of a financial asset under 12A:9-206 (c);\n(10)  a security interest in investment property created by a broker or securities intermediary;\n(11)  a security interest in a commodity contract or a commodity account created by a commodity intermediary;\n(12)  An assignment for the benefit of all creditors of the transferor and subsequent transfers by the assignee thereunder; and\n(13)  A security interest created by an assignment of a beneficial interest in a decedent's estate.\nL.2001, c.117, s.1; amended 2001, c.386, s.25.","path":["TITLE 12A COMMERCIAL TRANSACTIONS"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"55be48254bf06fcbca0bcbed7ed2def3483d7e82cd4650c58f6ee6a5e2140e5c","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-12a-9-308","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-12a-9-310"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
