A hospital service corporation contract that provides hospital or medical expense benefits and is delivered, issued, executed, or renewed in this State pursuant to P.L.1938, c.366 (C.17:48-1 et seq.), or approved for issuance or renewal in this State by the Commissioner of Banking and Insurance on or after the effective date of P.L.2025, c.200 (C. 17:48-6bbb et al.), shall provide benefits to any named subscriber or other person covered thereunder for expenses incurred in obtaining medically necessary treatment for women with a diagnosis of perimenopause, menopause, and symptoms associated with perimenopause and menopause, including, but not limited to:\n(1)\thormonal therapies such as hormone replacement therapy and bioidentical hormone treatments;\n(2)\tnon-hormonal treatments, including medications to manage perimenopause and menopausal symptoms;\n(3)\tbehavioral health care services;\n(4)\tpelvic floor physical therapy;\n(5)\tbone health treatments, including screenings and medications due to hormonal changes related to perimenopause and menopause;\n(6)\tpreventative services that have a rating of “A” or “B” in the current recommendations of the United States Preventive Services Task Force for early detection and treatment of health conditions related to perimenopause and menopause such as osteoporosis and cancer; and\n(7)\tcounseling regarding menopause management.\nb.\tA hospital service corporation shall provide clear and accessible information to subscribers or covered persons regarding covered perimenopause and menopause treatments.\nc.\tThe benefits shall be provided to the same extent as for any other medical condition under the contract.\nd.\tThe provisions of this section shall apply to all hospital service corporation contracts in which the hospital service corporation has reserved the right to change the premium.\ne.\tAs used in this section:\n“Menopause” means the permanent end of a female’s menstrual cycle, diagnosed by a licensed medical provider after 12 consecutive months without a menstrual period.\n“Perimenopause” means the transitional period leading to menopause, marked by fluctuating hormone levels and changes in menstrual cycles.\nL.2025, c.200, s.1.","path":["TITLE 17 CORPORATIONS AND INSTITUTIONS FOR FINANCE \t\t\tAND INSURANCE"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"1f618e7b6c2fb49b479caec4dc77818a92371b349af372b1efcd427b183a48a9","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-17-48-6aaa","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-17-48-6.1"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
