Stat. § 18A:36A-6","heading":"Powers of charter school","body":"6. \tA charter school established pursuant to the provisions of this act shall be a body corporate and politic with all powers necessary or desirable for carrying out its charter program, including, but not limited to, the power to:\na. \tAdopt a name and corporate seal; however, any name selected shall include the words \"charter school;\"\nb. \tSue and be sued, but only to the same extent and upon the same conditions that a public entity can be sued;\nc. \tAcquire real property from public or private sources, by purchase, lease, lease with an option to purchase, or by gift, for use as a school facility;\nd. \tReceive and disburse funds for school purposes;\ne. \tMake contracts and leases for the procurement of services, equipment and supplies;\nf. \tIncur temporary debts in anticipation of the receipt of funds;\ng. \tSolicit and accept any gifts or grants for school purposes; and\nh. \tHave such other powers as are necessary to fulfill its charter and which are not inconsistent with this act or the requirements of the commissioner.\nThe board of trustees of a charter school shall comply with the provisions of the \"Open Public Meetings Act,\" P.L.1975, c.231 (C.10:4-6 et seq.).\nL.1995,c.426,s.6.","path":["TITLE 18A EDUCATION"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"c98e317cecfa7e996f9035966b6cf4f7b3b4a53944061c775804e417e3b2fff5","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-18a-36a-5.1","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-18a-36a-6a"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
