Stat. § 18A:39-19.1a","heading":"Training required for school bus drivers, aides.","body":"1. a.\t As used in this section, \"employer\" means a board of education or a contractor that provides pupil transportation services under contract with a board of education.\nb.\tAn employer shall ensure that all school bus drivers and school bus aides are properly trained for the functions of their positions.\nc.\tAn employer shall administer a safety education program for all permanent and substitute school bus drivers and school bus aides that it employs.  At a minimum, the training shall include:\n(1)\tstudent management and discipline;\n(2)\tschool bus accident and emergency procedures;\n(3)\tconducting school bus emergency exit drills;\n(4)\tloading and unloading procedures;\n(5)\tschool bus stop loading zone safety;\n(6)\tinspecting the school vehicle for students left on board at the end of a route; and\n(7)\tthe use of a student's education records, including the employee's responsibility to ensure the privacy of the student and the student's records, if applicable.\nd.\tIn addition to the training requirements in subsection c. of this section, an employer shall administer to school bus drivers a safety education program that includes defensive driving techniques and railroad crossing procedures.\ne.\tThe employer shall administer the safety education program set forth in subsections c. and d. of this section twice per calendar year.\nL.2018, c.160, s.1.","path":["TITLE 18A EDUCATION"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"c5a637c11ce9a9936acea5f62f9f22b9143744d91d8811dcb5a0c7ba771297eb","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-18a-39-19.1","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-18a-39-19.2"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
