Stat. § 18A:40A-9","heading":"Definitions","body":"2.\tFor the purposes of this act:\n\"Substance\" shall mean alcoholic beverages, controlled dangerous substances as defined in section 2 of P.L.1970, c.266 (C.24:21-2), anabolic steroids or any chemical or chemical compound which releases vapors or fumes causing a condition of intoxication, inebriation, excitement, stupefaction or dulling of the brain or nervous system including, but not limited to, glue containing a solvent having the property of releasing toxic vapors or fumes as defined in section 1 of P.L.1965, c.41 (C.2A:170-25.9).\n\"Substance use  \" shall mean the consumption or use of any substance as defined herein for purposes other than for the treatment of sickness or injury as prescribed or administered by a person duly authorized by law to treat sick and injured human beings.\nL.1987, c.387, s.2; amended 1989, c.216, s.1; 2023, c.177, s.41.","path":["TITLE 18A EDUCATION"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"254f5dc078476d84af165cd8a1fd5a8d98f6377043d2a1876ccfda987ddc7ac9","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-18a-40a-8","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-18a-40a-10"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
