There is established a Division of Early Childhood Education in the Department of Education.  The administrator and head of the division shall be a person qualified by training and experience to perform the duties of the division and shall devote his entire time to the performance of those duties.\nb.\tThe division shall be responsible for:\n(1)\tsetting required standards for early childhood education programs in districts that operate preschool programs for three- and four-year olds that emphasize the quality necessary to meet children's needs, including, but not limited to, standards for teacher qualifications, program design and facilities;\n(2)\tidentifying and disseminating information on model early childhood education programs that meet and exceed high standards for program quality;\n(3)\tthe coordination of early childhood programs and services in consultation with the Department of Human Services;\n(4)\tidentifying the amount of funds necessary to implement successful early childhood education programs based on a comprehensive needs assessment;\n(5)\tproviding assistance, as needed, to school districts in implementing early childhood education programs;\n(6)\timplementing the early childhood education orders of the New Jersey Supreme Court;\n(7)\toverseeing the evaluation and monitoring of early childhood education programs in districts that operate preschool programs for three- and four-year olds; and\n(8)\tproviding, in consultation with the Department of Human Services, an annual report to the Legislature and public on early childhood education.\nL.2000, c.139, s.2; amended 2007, c.260, s.70.","path":["TITLE 18A EDUCATION"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"d20d0af1f80d159688ee08593cc4bb81a1f40e7169bae629ce14d57d99672773","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-18a-44-4","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-18a-44-7"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
