Stat. § 18A:7C-14","heading":"Purposes of the State Seal of Biliteracy.","body":"2.\tThe State Seal of Biliteracy is established to recognize high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in one or more foreign languages in addition to English. The State Seal of Biliteracy shall be awarded by the local board of education to graduating high school seniors who meet the criteria established by the State Board of Education pursuant to subsection a. of section 3 of this act. School district participation in this program is voluntary.\nThe purposes of the State Seal of Biliteracy are as follows:\na.\tTo encourage students to study languages;\nb.\tTo certify attainment of biliteracy;\nc.\tTo provide employers with a method of identifying people with language and biliteracy skills;\nd.\tTo provide universities with a method to recognize and award academic credit to applicants seeking admission;\ne.\tTo prepare students with 21st century skills;\nf.\tTo recognize and promote foreign language instruction in public schools; and\ng.\tTo strengthen intergroup relationships, affirm the value of diversity, and honor the multiple cultures and languages of a community.\nL.2015, c.303, s.2.","path":["TITLE 18A EDUCATION"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"191a0b81019250fe5204a52a4559e192361dddef83ce376291509e0b3beef85f","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-18a-7c-13","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-18a-7c-15"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
