The director shall place a substance in Schedule V if he finds that the substance: (1) has low potential for abuse relative to the substances listed in Schedule IV; (2) has currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States; and (3) has limited physical dependence or psychological dependence liability relative to the substances listed in Schedule IV.\nb.\tThe controlled dangerous substances listed in this section are included in Schedule V.\nc.\tAny compound, mixture, or preparation containing limited quantities of any of the following narcotic drugs, which also contains one or more nonnarcotic active medicinal ingredients in sufficient proportion to confer upon the compound, mixture, or preparation, valuable medicinal qualities other than those possessed by the narcotic drug alone:\n(1)\tNot more than 200 milligrams of codeine or any of its salts per 100 milliliters or per 100 grams;\n(2)\tNot more than 100 milligrams of dihydrocodeine or any of its salts per 100 milliliters or per 100 grams;\n(3)\tNot more than 50 milligrams of ethylmorphine or any of its salts per 100 milliliters or per 100 grams;\n(4)\tNot more than 2.5 milligrams of diphenoxylate and not less than 25 micrograms of atropine sulfate per dosage unit;\n(5)\tNot more than 100 milligrams of opium or any of its salts per 100 milliliters or per 100 grams.\nL.1971, c.3, s.4; amended 2007, c.244, s.7.","path":["TITLE 24 FOOD AND DRUGS"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"2a3a5a22d8fbba84f132c7e31ad1ad76bae72b2397aa992ebb5da4eecc321b87","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-24-21-8","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-24-21-9"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
