Stat. § 25:2-22","heading":"Definitions:  I to Z.","body":"Definitions: I to Z.\nAs used in this article:\n\"Insider\" includes:\na.\tIf the debtor is an individual:\n(1)\tA relative of the debtor or of a general partner of the debtor;\n(2)\tA partnership in which the debtor is a general partner;\n(3)\tA general partner in a partnership described in paragraph (2) of subsection a. of this definition; or\n(4)\tA corporation of which the debtor is a director, officer, or person in control;\nb.\tIf the debtor is a corporation:\n(1)\tA director of the debtor;\n(2)\tAn officer of the debtor;\n(3)\tA person in control of the debtor;\n(4)\tA partnership in which the debtor is a general partner;\n(5)\tA general partner in a partnership described in paragraph (4) of subsection b. of this definition; or\n(6)\tA relative of a general partner, director, officer, or person in control of the debtor;\nc.\tIf the debtor is a partnership:\n(1)\tA general partner in the debtor;\n(2)\tA relative of a general partner in, or a general partner of, or a person in control of the debtor;\n(3)\tAnother partnership in which the debtor is a general partner;\n(4)\tA general partner in a partnership described in paragraph (3) of subsection c. of this definition; or\n(5)\tA person in control of the debtor;\nd.\tAn affiliate, or an insider of an affiliate as if the affiliate were the debtor; and\ne.\tA managing agent of the debtor.\n\"Lien\" means a charge against or an interest in property to secure payment of a debt or performance of an obligation, and includes a security interest created by agreement, a judicial lien obtained by legal or equitable process or proceedings, a common-law lien, or a statutory lien.\n\"Organization\" means a person other than an individual.\n\"Person\" means an individual, estate, partnership, association, trust, business or nonprofit entity, public corporation, government or governmental subdivision, agency, or instrumentality, or any other legal or commercial entity.\n\"Property\" means anything that may be the subject of ownership.\n\"Record\" means information that is inscribed on a tangible medium or that is stored in an electronic or other medium and is retrievable in perceivable form.\n\"Relative\" means an individual related by consanguinity within the third degree as determined by the common law, a spouse, or an individual related to a spouse within the third degree as so determined, and includes an individual in an adoptive relationship within the third degree.\n\"Sign\" means, with present intent to authenticate or adopt a record:\n(1)\tTo execute or adopt a tangible symbol; or\n(2)\tTo attach to or logically associate with the record an electronic symbol, sound, or process.\n\"Transfer\" means every mode, direct or indirect, absolute or conditional, voluntary or involuntary, of disposing of or parting with an asset or an interest in an asset, and includes payment of money, release, lease, license, and creation of a lien or other encumbrance.\n\"Valid lien\" means a lien that is effective against the holder of a judicial lien subsequently obtained by legal or equitable process or proceedings.\namended 2021, c.92, s.3.","path":["TITLE 25 FRAUDS AND FRAUDULENT CONVEYANCES"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"c6b34b401b12dafcdaf8883d5b138c01aadc6f4102e9896ca5411bb1bc6c1aa7","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-25-2-21","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-25-2-23"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
