Stat. § 2C:52-27","heading":"Effect of expungement.","body":"Effect of expungement.\nUnless otherwise provided by law, if an order of expungement is granted, the arrest, conviction and any proceedings related thereto shall be deemed not to have occurred, and the petitioner may answer any questions relating to their occurrence accordingly, except as follows:\na.\tThe fact of an expungement, sealing or similar relief shall be disclosed as provided in section 2C:52-8b.\nb.\tThe fact of an expungement of prior charges which were dismissed because of the person's acceptance into and successful completion of a supervisory treatment or other diversion program shall be disclosed by said person to any court that is determining the propriety of accepting said person into a supervisory treatment or other diversion program for subsequent criminal charges; and\nc.\tInformation divulged on expunged records shall be revealed by a petitioner seeking employment within the judicial branch or with a law enforcement or corrections agency and such information shall continue to provide a disability as otherwise provided by law.\namended 1981, c.290, s.45; 2015, c.261, s.8.","path":["TITLE 2C THE NEW JERSEY CODE OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"2c36855e3b414b0263edacff500725e0eba3ca58ec95e042d394e377aa92cce6","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-2c-52-26","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-2c-52-27.1"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
