Stat. § 39:4-10.10a","heading":"Regulation of skateboarding, roller skating; \"roller skates\" defined.","body":"1.\tThe governing body of any municipality may, by ordinance, regulate the operation of skateboards and roller skates upon the roadways and public properties under municipal jurisdiction; provided, however, that no such ordinance shall:\na.\tabsolve any person operating roller skates  or a skateboard upon a permitted roadway of any of the duties applicable to the operator of a bicycle pursuant to Article 3 of chapter 4 of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes and all supplements thereto, except as to those provisions thereof which by their nature can have no application; or\nb.\tprohibit  any person from operating  a skateboard upon any public roadway, except  those specifically designated by ordinance .\nFor the purpose of this section, \"roller skates\" means a pair of devices worn on the feet with a set of wheels attached, regardless of the number or placement of those wheels, and used to glide or propel the user over the ground.\nL.1998,c.36,s.1.","path":["TITLE 39 MOTOR VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC REGULATION"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"1a76468ba6f1f18ba8532b7b12c6faa7522584374134a2e73faa9b35a365ddf8","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-39-4-10.10","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-39-4-10.10b"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
