Low-speed vehicles operated upon any public road or highway in this State shall be maintained in proper condition and comply with the equipment requirements and standards as set forth in 49 CFR s. 571.500, as amended and supplemented.\nLow-speed vehicles operated upon any public road or highway in this State shall be equipped with the following additional equipment:\n(1)\tBrakes adequate to control the movement of and to stop such vehicle;\n(2)\tAn odometer;\n(3)\tA speedometer; and\n(4)\tThe original manufacturer's vehicle identification number die stamped upon the body, or frame, or either or both of them, of the vehicle or the original manufacturer's vehicle identification number die stamped upon the engine or motor of the vehicle.\nb.\tAll low-speed vehicles shall have a safety information decal as provided by the manufacturer affixed in a conspicuous place on the rear of the vehicle which shall display in prominent lettering \"25 MPH Vehicle.\"\nc.\tAny person operating a low-speed vehicle without the equipment prescribed in this section shall, on conviction, be fined for each violation as provided in R.S.39:3-79.\nL.2005,c.273,s.3.","path":["TITLE 39 MOTOR VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC REGULATION"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"a7d001b50d5bedbfc4b1887bea161d3bf0de1208b393f813ef2df1583baa3da8","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-39-4-31.1","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-39-4-31.3"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
