An animal cruelty prosecutor shall:\na.\tpromote the interests of, and protect and care for, animals within the county;\nb.\tinvestigate and prosecute violations of article 2 of chapter 22 of Title 4 of the Revised Statutes;\nc.\trequest the assistance of the Department of Agriculture in the investigation of any violation concerning livestock; and\nd.\tsubmit, by January 1 of each year, a report to the Attorney General which shall include the following information pertaining to animal cruelty law enforcement in the county for the most recently concluded State fiscal year:\n(1)\tthe number of complaints received from each municipality and from the county society for the prevention of cruelty to animals, as applicable, for each violation of any provision of article 2 of chapter 22 of Title 4 of the Revised Statutes;\n(2)\tthe number of complaints investigated;\n(3)\tthe number of complaints prosecuted or otherwise litigated;\n(4)\tthe number of animals adjudged forfeited;\n(5)\tthe number of animals returned to the owner;\n(6)\tproceeds from fines collected for violations of any provision of article 2 of chapter 22 of Title 4 of the Revised Statutes; and\n(7)\tas applicable, any policy recommendations or concerns related to animal cruelty law enforcement in the county, or as described by a municipal humane law enforcement officer in the annual report required pursuant to paragraph (5) of subsection c. of section 26 of P.L.2017, c.331 (C.4:22-14.2) or by a humane law enforcement officer of a county society for the prevention of cruelty to animals in the annual report required pursuant to subsection d. of section 29 of P.L.2017, c.331 (C.4:22-14.5).\nL.2017, c.331, s.31.","path":["TITLE 4 AGRICULTURE AND DOMESTIC ANIMALS"],"source_url":"https://pub.njleg.state.nj.us/statutes/STATUTES-TEXT.zip","current_through":"P.L.2025, c.405, and J.R.22","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-08-27T17:54:13Z","sha256":"58c8e8a48573adb2eb25fa32cfaed1ea12c625718142c6c1c99fc332eca740f2","source_id":"us-nj","stale":true,"prev":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-4-22-14.6","next":"us-nj/n.j.-stat.-4-22-14.8"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
